Weekly Update
January 17, 2020
Happy Friday!
Throughout this past week, we have been discussing the topic of “failure”. We started off this unit with a writing activity where students had to choose between two quotes that were written on the board. Both of these quotes were about failure and each student had to explain why they chose that quote, how it may/may not relate to them, and/or if they agree with the message that was being sent from that quote. I was very impressed with the effort they put into this assignment!
Thursday was a shorter class period, due to our campus Spelling Bee so we had a discussion based activity that even led us into some great debates! Students discussed/debated on whether they feel mistakes and failures are the same or different and about if we achieve our goal, but have a few detours (mistakes) along the way, do we fail or do we succeed because we still reached our goal? Their opinions were pretty insightful and got you thinking!
Today, we used technology to our advantage and scanned QR codes to learn about “famous failures”. It was fun watching and listening to them learn about famous people who didn’t have a glamorous start or path to their fame, but still preserved and became successful!
Next week, we will move into our Communication unit. To tie in what we’ve previously learned about failure, we will be learning about how misunderstandings can occur, why communication skills are important, and will even break it down into the two types of communication: verbal vs. nonverbal.
We had a great week and I am excited to see what our next unit has in store! 🙂
